Learn More About Grid-Tie Solar

A welcome development in solar power is the partnership with local power utilities. It is now possible to install solar power systems which are grid-tied. Being grid-tied allows you to avoid battery systems which can be a costly part of solar energy.  This allows you to sell the extra electricity you produce back to the power company or have it credited to your account.  During the day when solar production is at its peak, the excess power that your system generates will flow back into the power grid. At night when your system isn't producing, you will still draw power from the grid.  As you produce power you can watch your power meter run backwards.

What About Your Electric Bill?

click on images to enlargeWhile your rooftop solar system generates and collects electricity, your electric meter runs backwards.  Your electric company will credit your account in kilowatt-hours (kWh) each billing cycle.  This significantly reduces the amount of electricity that you buy, kWh for KWh, meaning that each month; your bottom line energy cost is less.  Also, you will never run out of electricity because if you use more energy than your solar system is producing, then you will receive energy from the grid.

Solar Insolation

By knowing the insolation levels of a particular region we can determine the size of solar collector that is required. An area with poor insolation levels will need a larger collector than an area with high insolation levels. Once you know your region's insolation level you can more accurately calculate collector size and energy output.

Arizona has some of the best Solar Insolation levels in the Continental United States!
